How to Run a Black Friday Sale on Your WordPress Site

A practical checklist for a Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale on WordPress — dates and coupons, one evergreen deals page, banners and countdowns, honest urgency, a checkout test and the clean-up afterwards.

A Black Friday sale on WordPress comes down to five things: fixed dates and a working coupon, one permanent deals page, a banner that tells every visitor about it, urgency that is honest, and a checkout you have tested. This checklist walks through each one. It works for any store or plugin shop, and points out where free WPXERO plugins can do the job without code.

In 2026, Black Friday falls on November 27 and Cyber Monday on November 30.

1. Fix the dates, the discount and the coupon

Decide these before you design anything:

  • Start and end time, with a time zone. "Ends Monday" means different things in Sydney and San Francisco. Write "ends November 30, 11:59 PM ET" everywhere you mention the sale.
  • One discount, stated one way. "25% off every plan" is clearer than a different percentage per product.
  • One coupon code that already works. Create it in your shop or payment platform, set its expiry to the sale's end, enable it for every product it should cover, and test it once on a real checkout.

If your checkout can apply the code automatically, do it. Every extra step at checkout loses buyers, and a forgotten code turns into a support ticket.

2. Use one permanent deals page

Create a page at a URL you can keep — /deals or /black-friday — not /black-friday-2026.

  • Links from newsletters, social posts and deal roundups keep working every year.
  • Search engines keep the ranking the page earned last season.
  • Between sales, the page can say when the next one starts and offer a newsletter sign-up instead of disappearing.

On the page, state the discount, the code, the exact end time, what is included and what isn't, and your refund policy. Answer the obvious questions in plain text — "Does it apply to renewals?", "Can I combine coupons?" — so both customers and AI search engines can find the answer.

3. Tell every visitor

Most visitors won't arrive on the deals page, so announce the sale site-wide:

  • A scrolling banner. MarqueeX (free) adds a Text Marquee block for the block editor and an Elementor widget. Put "Black Friday — 25% off until Monday" at the top of the homepage and shop.
  • A fixed offer bar. ExtenderX's free Announcement Bar adds a dismissible bar to the top or bottom of every page. ExtenderX Pro adds a Global Countdown Banner for the final days.
  • A festive touch. ExtenderX Pro includes Black Friday and Cyber Monday confetti effects you can schedule by date range and limit to certain pages, so they switch on and off without you.
  • A last chance before they leave. ExtenderX Pro's Exit-Intent Popup can show the offer when a visitor moves to close the tab. Use it on product and pricing pages, not on every page.

Pick one banner style. A marquee, a bar and a popup on the same page compete with each other and with your content.

4. Keep the urgency honest

A countdown is useful because it's true. Keep it that way:

  • The timer ends exactly when the coupon stops working.
  • It doesn't restart for each visitor or on reload.
  • If you extend the sale, say so plainly — don't run a second "final hours" countdown.
  • Don't invent stock limits or "only 3 left" messages you can't back up.

Fake urgency erodes trust, and in many countries it breaks consumer-protection rules. The same goes for social proof: show real purchases or reviews, or none.

5. Test the whole path

The week before the sale:

  1. Open the site in a private window on a phone and click every banner. Each should land on the deals page or the right product.
  2. Add a product to the cart and go all the way to the payment step. Check the discount shows and the total is right.
  3. Try the coupon by hand as well, in case the automatic code doesn't apply.
  4. Check that banners and effects don't cover buttons, form fields or the cookie notice.
  5. Run your page speed test with everything switched on. Heavy effects on a slow phone cost more sales than they win.

6. Clean up when it ends

  • Turn off banners, popups and effects — or let date scheduling do it.
  • Update the deals page to "no sale running right now" and point to the next one.
  • Remove sale prices from product descriptions, emails in your queue and any structured data, so search results don't show an expired price.
  • Look at what sold, which banner got clicked and where people dropped off at checkout, and note it for next year.

Reuse the setup for Cyber Monday and the holidays

Cyber Monday can continue the same offer with a different look — ExtenderX Pro has separate Cyber Monday confetti — and the same banners carry into a year-end sale with new text. For a seasonal look in December, see ExtenderX's free Winter Snow effect and Ultimate Cursor's free Snowflake cursor.

WPXERO's own Black Friday and Cyber Monday offers on Pro plans are on the deals page.

Common Questions

Many stores open a week before Black Friday and run through Cyber Monday. In 2026 Black Friday is November 27 and Cyber Monday is November 30. Whatever you choose, publish the exact start and end time, including the time zone.

No. Keep one permanent URL such as /deals or /black-friday and update it each year. Links and search rankings it earned last year carry over, and visitors who bookmarked it land on the current offer.

Yes, if it is real. A countdown must end when the offer actually ends. Timers that reset for every visitor, or sales that are extended after the "final hours", are fake urgency and can break consumer-protection rules.

Yes. MarqueeX's free Text Marquee block or ExtenderX's free Announcement Bar can announce the sale on every page. ExtenderX Pro adds a Global Countdown Banner and Black Friday and Cyber Monday confetti you can schedule by date.
