How to Add a Mobile Bottom Navigation Bar to WordPress (App-Style Menu)

Add an app-style bottom navigation bar to WordPress — which buttons to include, icons, labels, the More drawer, notched phones and placement options.

To add a mobile bottom navigation bar to WordPress, install the free MenuVerse plugin, enable the Bottom Menu module, pick a ready-made look and set four buttons — links, pages or a search sheet — with icons and labels. Save, and an app-style bar appears pinned to the bottom of the screen on phones, with safe-area padding for notched devices.

Why a bottom bar

Phones are held one-handed, and the bottom of the screen is where thumbs reach. A bottom bar puts your most important pages one tap away instead of behind a hamburger icon in the top corner — the same pattern visitors use in nearly every app.

Choose your buttons

Site typeSuggested buttons
StoreHome · Search products · Shop · Account
Local businessHome · Services · Call · Directions
Blog or magazineHome · Search · Categories · Newsletter
RestaurantMenu · Order · Book · Contact
Course or membershipDashboard · Courses · Search · Account

Four is the sweet spot. Put the rest in a More drawer.

Set it up

  1. Install and activate MenuVerse.
  2. Open MenuVerse and follow the setup walkthrough: pick Bottom Menu, choose a menu, place it, save.
  3. Start from a ready-made look, then fine-tune colours, spacing and behaviour in the step-by-step dashboard. The live phone preview updates beside every step.
  4. For each button choose an icon from the built-in library, a label above or below, and an action: a URL, a page, or a search sheet for the site, WooCommerce products or Easy Digital Downloads.
  5. Choose how to mark the current page — for example a colour or a pill.
  6. Add badges where useful ("New").
  7. Save.

Details that matter

  • Notched phones. MenuVerse adds safe-area padding so the bar clears the home indicator.
  • Footer overlap. Add bottom padding to your footer so its last line isn't hidden behind the bar.
  • Labels. Icons alone are ambiguous; short labels help everyone.
  • Speed. Each MenuVerse module is under 6 KB gzipped, uses vanilla JavaScript, and its icons ship with the plugin — no CDN.

Common Questions

Install the free MenuVerse plugin, open MenuVerse in the admin sidebar and enable the Bottom Menu module. Pick a ready-made look, choose what each button points at — a link, a page or a search sheet — and save. The bar appears on mobile straight away.

Four or five of your most-used actions — typically Home, Search, Shop or Services, Cart or Contact, and Account. Put everything else in the hamburger menu or a More drawer.

MenuVerse's free version shows four buttons, with a More drawer for overflow items or a bar that scrolls sideways. Pro allows more buttons.

MenuVerse adds safe-area padding for notched phones so the bar sits above the home indicator. Also check that your footer isn't hidden behind the bar.

A bar placed with the block or shortcode shows exactly where you put it, on any tier. Page rules for automatic insertion are part of MenuVerse Pro.

It's designed for mobile, where it's pinned to the bottom of the viewport. Your desktop navigation stays as it is.
